Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)
Allows international students who have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada to gain valuable work experience in Canada.
To be eligible for a PGWP, you must meet the following requirements:
-
Have completed a program of study at a DLI that is at least 8 months in length and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate.
-
Have maintained full-time student status during your studies in Canada.
-
Have graduated from a program that is on the list of eligible programs for the PGWP.
-
Apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving written confirmation from the DLI that you have completed your program requirements.
The duration of a PGWP depends on the length of your study program. If your study program was less than two years but at least eight months long, you may be eligible for a PGWP that is valid for the same length as your study program. If your study program was two years or longer, you may be eligible for a PGWP that is valid for three years.
The processing time for a PGWP application can vary depending on the time of year and the volume of applications. It's important to apply for the PGWP as soon as possible after completing your program of study, as you may only apply once.
If your application is approved, you will receive a PGWP that allows you to work for any employer in Canada and gain valuable work experience in your field of study.
